Description: Behold , the Smokey Amp, a truly diabolical idea that, for various reasons, just never really caught on big, but that in no way means it is “bad.” I have had this for several years, and it still works using a 9V battery (not included). If you don’t know what this is, basically it is a guitar amplifier wired into a cigarette box. It has one input for a standard cable and one output. The battery fits inside the box. There is no on switch, so I believe the battery needs to be unplugged after each use. I was exposed to these through the world of cigar box guitar, but I also play it using a single coil guitar, or I theorize that you could technically use anything you can plug a standard cable into. The sound is thin and vintage. It reminds me of a sound you are hearing in the distance..it is a distant, almost lonely sound. There is no volume or tone controls, but here’s the thing- with certain songs, that thin, old, weakish sound works wonderfully, and it is a fairly surprising, unique tone. I think the negatives to the smokey amp are also essentially the positives- there are no controls. It is small, and truly is cigarette pack size, but it is a cigarette box. The concept that you can easily carry it around is very cool, and whipping it out and plugging into it can startle and impress, almost like a magic trick. The negative, however, is that it is a cardboard cigarette box, and could easily be damaged. It would be fairly silly to carry this as you would a pack of cigarettes, unless you don’t mind risking its deterioration. So you see, the Smokey Amp is a strange accessory. I never heard of Traffic cigarettes, and I think the “banned” sticker was for the cigarettes, as I see this sticker on other Smokey Amps. The box shows some signs of wear, but I’ve been careful with it over the years. I will admit to you, I almost hate to sell it. I play it only a little. When I play it, I like it and I think it’s neat, but then it sits in the drawer for months and months. Perhaps someone like you can give this thing the creative use it deserves. I have enjoyed my time with it, and now it is time for me to sell it to another, such as you. Condition is as pictured. Ships from Ohio, USA.
