It is cut to hold the 45ACP cartridge by the case mouth as seen in one of the pictures. The cylinder is clean and appears to be smooth. There is a picture of the packaging this came with. Read the label. I have provided multiple pictures of all of the cylinder so you can make your evaluation of the cosmetic condition. It shows signs of prior use. I acquired this from an estate of a reputable gun enthusiast. He owned several 1917 Smith Wessons. I have included pictures of manufacturing markings stamped on the cylinder and the crane.
