Description: This is a set of five cut and polished fossilized agatized ammonite halves which were collected from Madagascar, Africa. This ammonite fossil set includes two ammonites which were cut in half and have matching sides and one half of another ammonite for a total of five ammonite polished halves. The largest ammonite half of the set measures 1.56 inches long by 1.27 inches wide. This ammonite specimen set is in great condition. Ammonites are an extinct group of marine invertebrate animals of the cephalopod group of mollusks which died out at the end of the Upper Cretaceous period (65 million years ago). Many of the ammonites have been agatized, and their inner chambers are often preserved as hollow cavities lined with crystals or filled with agate. These ammonite specimens have been cut in half and the inner chambers are polished to reveal the inside detail and mineralization. Madagascar is a famous location for mining these amazingly preserved ammonite fossils from both the Jurassic and the Cretaceous periods.
