This is a direct drive model, with means the motor connects to the mechanicals with a shaft rather than a belt. This provides better, more consistent torque and was the system reserved for Singers most expensive top-of-the-line models like the 201-2. This machine has a serial number of NA080939, which would indicate a manufacture date in 1952, in Anderson, SC.
