There is much to be learned from their struggles and peaceful dedication to their personal beliefs in the face of violent opposition.--Camper C Where is Harkers Island on the Map?Harkers Island is located north of Beaufort, about a 30-minute drive from Atlantic Beach. You can access the island by traveling on US-70 E and Harker’s Island Road. On the island, you’ll be able to spot the Core Sound to the east and the Back Sound to the south. The tucked-away feeling of the island has persisted for centuries, from Europeans arriving in the 1500s to hurricane refugees coming in during the 1800s. Advancements like paved roads were slow to come, but they have helped bring the island into today’s world while maintaining a small-town vibe. While visitors are beginning to discover the area, it is still a well-kept secret, meaning you won’t be competition for a seat at a restaurant or a spot on the beach.
