Description: Louise Gluck was one of the most celebrated and critically recognized poets of the last 40 years. She won the Nobel prize for Literature in 2020. This book of her poetry, Averno, was a finalist for the National Book Award. She won almost every major award for poetry in her lifetime including a Pulitzer (1993), a Bollingen, and National Book Award, and National Critics Circle award. She also served as Poet Laureate of the United States. She died in 2023. This particular paperback was given in recognition of Hendrix College's Isaac Andrew Campbell prize, whose recipient in 2013 was William Repass. The signatures of other notable professors in the English Department at Hendrix have also signed, including Marianne Tettlebaum, Hope Coulter, and Tyrone Jaeger. See pictures. It is inscribed by Louise Gluck "For William Repass, Best Wishes, Louise Gluck" It's condition is good. Several pencil annotations within have been erased. It is otherwise a clean, tight copy with this highly sought-after poet's signature.
