I have been collecting Josh Simpson's work for decades, with some pieces that I bought directly from the artist in the days when he started out and "did the craft shows." Other pieces I bought from the gallery in Shelburne, MA. Not taking anything away from his current offerings, I am partial to his very early work, having purchased my first goblet, when that was the core of his production. I have planets of all sizes one of which is 6" in diameter and the other 2 are 5" in diameter and they indeed look inhabited with true atmospheres, mountain ranges and satelites. I have inhabited planets of all sizes, inhabited vases, perfume bottles, wine goblets and plates. That being said, it is time for some of my collection to find another collector's home. For your consideration is a limited edition, no longer in production, "Signed Josh Simpson 2004 Early Tektite Portal" I kept this piece on my desk for years, never tiring looking around and into the "otherworldly windowed glass portal" This piece is crafted and is signed "Simpson '04." The "meteorite-like tektite encasement" is like a wrapping around the portal irregular in shape and the approximate dimensions are: 7 inches in length, 5 inches in both height and width. This one of a kind no longer available piece draws you in to its "otherworldly portal" embedded in a free-form amorphous meteorite-like encasement, making it a great addition for any artglass collection. Tektite Portals are no longer produced and are not typically for sale on Josh Simpson's website, but there is a vintage piece currently being offered measureing 11" X 9" X 5" selling for $2325.00 The buyer of this piece will be more than pleased when seeing it in person and holding it in hand. It is, in my opinion, one of the best Tektite portals he has ever made.
