Description: This is a lovely collector's first edition from the Bulmer family, published in 1987 to celebrate the centenary of H.P. Bulmer Ltd which was founded in 1887. It identifies the most successful cider apple varieties propagated since the famous Herefordshite Pomona was published between 1876 and 1885. They are described by Ray Williams BSc a cider pomologist for 35 years at the University of Bristol at Long Ashton, with line drawings by Rodney Shackell. Complete with mottled marbled boards, edged in green buckram I think, with gold titling on spine, very numerous coloured apple illustations in the text, even signed by the artist, Caroline Todhunter herself; a fine copy rarely available. This was printed by the Stellar Press in Hatfield bound by Lumsden of Edinburgh. It has a distinctive quality museum, archival feel to it and beautifully conceived and executed. 35 beautiful life-sized plates bring the edition to life. A lovely collector's edition and tribute to the largest cider maker in the world. Free Postage to UK.
