Description: Original Broadway Theater Poster SIDE SHOW Starring: Emily Skinner & Alice Ripley Also Starring: Jeff McCarthy Hugh Panaro Norm Lewis Ken Jennings Music by: Henry Krieger Book & Lyrics by: Bill Russell Directed & Choreographed by: Robert Longbottom The Richard Rodgers Theatre, NYC Broadway, like Hollywood, is constantly in search of new stories to tell. Novels, dramatic plays, and--increasingly--movies are providing Broadway composers and producers with song-and-dance subject matter for the stage. The latest theme for musical inspiration has been history. Shows like Titanic, 1776 and Side Show prove that fact is indeed often more compelling than fiction. Side Show is inspired by the true story of the Hilton Sisters, Daisy and Violet, "Siamese" Twins who co-starred in a 1930s song-and-dance act as part of a traveling troupe of unsusual performers criss-crossing the American countryside, playing the carnival and vaudeville circuits of the day. Based on an original idea by director/choreographer Robert Longbottom, Side Show was written by Bill Russell (book and lyrics) and Henry Krieger, who composed the music for Dreamgirls. The creators of Side Show have moved beyond the mundane details of a physical condition to the emotional and psychological realities of difference. In the starring roles as Daisy and Violet, Emily Skinner and Alice Ripley evoke the twins' poignant humanity in such duets as "When I'm By Your Side" and "I Will Never Leave You." The conflicts that face them as individuals trapped in an inescapable union are brought to a fever pitch in "The Tunnel of Love." To take the audience on the journey from a seedy carnival to the bright lights of vaudeville, Tony Award-winning set designer Robin Wagner used rotating bleachers in constantly changing configurations. The poster measures 14" x 22". The poster is printed on card stock. It is not folded and will be shipped flat!
