Another artist tapping Sheila's talent was Prince, who asked her to work on his Purple Rain soundtrack album and encouraged her to record her own album. Written, performed and "directed" by Sheila E., "The Glamorous Life" was originally released in 1984. A multiple Grammy and American Music Award winner, the CD features the smash hit in the title track, which was also the subject of one of the most provocative videos of the year. Sheila E. launched a three-monthly coast-to-coast solo tour before joining Prince as both an opening act and as part of his stage band for the record-breaking Purple Rain tour.
