Description: Austin Monk was a crusty old Montana rancher who died when he was 91 leaving over 100 guns to his daughter, Janet. There were Sharps rifles, Winchesters, Rolling Blocks and muzzle loaders. Janet, who admittedly knows less about guns than a pig about religion, decided to write a book about the 21 Sharps rifles. Sixty Five of the guns were stored in her Auntie's basement...a layer of guns, an old blanket, another layer of guns, an old bedspread. On and on it went. She lugged the guns up from the basement, had their pictures taken and wrote the stories about each gun. One Sharps, the 45 2 7/8, was purchased in 1935, when Austin was 22, from a Seattle pawn shop for $50. Another he was given when he was 17. He didn't want an old percussion Sharps when he was a young lad but he hid it away in an old granary. He went back 40 years later and retrieved it. The stories are in this beautiful book with 200 photos and some very interesting and humorous capers of rural Montana in the 1950s
