Description: The SHAFTRU Milling Tool was manufactured by Altherton Salter MFG Co in St Louis. MO. It was patented in 1920 as a crank pin and crank shaft Truing tool. The tool is stamped/numbered 1178 and measures approx 16- 1/2 inches long x 5 inch wide. From online research, this was a crank shaft straightener for the FORD MODEL A and possibly other vintage car makes. It looks to be a substantial and quality machine tool. This is all original except for a new, 7/16 steel bolt and nut that clamp the assembly closed. It comes with the original wood box, to store or possibly display this vintage automotive tool.
