B/w, 3½x5½. Captioned in lower margin. Seymour Hicks (1871-1949) was a British stage and music hall star by the 1890s, often appearing with his wife, Ellaline Terriss. In 1901, he first performed the role for which he was best known, that of Ebenezer Scrooge in a non-musical version of Dickens' A Christmas Carol. After performing the part thousands of times on stage, he starred in the first film version (1913). Hicks and Terriss starred in some of the earliest London stage musicals. By 1906, Hicks was a successful producer, and opened his own Hicks Theater. His last film appearance was a supporting role in Silent Dust, the year of his death. Lightly creased.
