Description: This eye-catching chrome and ivory square clock is an amazing rare find. I’ve been unable to find another example anywhere on the internet. I’d read several years ago that Seth Thomas clock manufacturing dates could be determined by the numbers stamped on the back cover. A Seth Thomas clock I recently owned was stamped 4712, which meant Dec. of ‘47. I was able to confirm this by finding other items on the net of the same design. This clock however has a stamp that I read as 4018. This doesn’t work out as this would then be deciphered as the 18th month of ‘40 ? I can see that this style would be pre-war 1940 era but I’m less than completely certain of this. (I’d love to hear from anyone with more info). When I purchased this Art Deco clock it was not working due to a prior attempt at repairs that left it with missing pieces that are not to be found any longer. So I decided to revive it with a quartz battery movement. The upside to this is that it can continue to adorn someone’s wall for another indefinite lifetime, while doing so without an unsightly brown electric cord running down the wall to an outlet. I’ve installed a ribbon on the movement that sits behind the battery to facilitate an easy battery change by giving a light tug on it to remove it from the movement. I will provide a high quality alkaline battery that should give a long service life of up to two years. This Retro clock does show its approximately 85 years of age as the chrome base has some scratches from what I believe was a polishing attempt with an aggressive auto chrome polish which may have improved it but caused some scratching on the chrome. The sides and bottom are not bad and hard to see except at close examination. The top is worse but when hanging on the wall theta is unseen. The face is an ivory colored plastic I presume, and it does have some slight blotchiness in small areas as seen in the photos. Overall this antique clock is in good condition and will add an interesting enrichment to your home or office decor. This comes from a smoke free environment.
