Description: Set of 2 Vintage Royal Staffordshire Clarice Cliff Tonquin 7-7/8" Soup/Salad Bowl Red/Pink. Clarice Cliff was a designer known for her Art Deco Bizarreware and after the conclusion of WWII, returned to decorating pottery in a more conventional fashion. Tonquin was created in the 1940s and is transferware - this particular pattern came in several colors with these bowls being the red/pink example. The bowls measures 1.25" in height and have a diameter of 7-7/8" and are soup/salad bowls. In overall good condition. One bowl is excellent with no chips, cracks, or other major flaws, barring a small smudge of color under the glaze on the back of the bowl (minor manufacturer defect). The other bowl does have a chip on the backside along the rim that is not visible from the front. In addition, there is a small rough area that appears to be left over from the manufacturing process on the rim - there is a small raised area and indent where it appears the glaze may not have taken completely.
