Description: As the GAR members grew increasingly old, members of the Allied Orders ( Sons, Daughters, Relief Corps, Aux to Sons, Ladies of the GAR) served as Secretary to the GAR Posts. This practice began in the 1920s until the Posts closed. Records indicate this bar pin was made by Joseph Davision Jewelers of Philadelphia. Bronze bar reads " Secretary To Post". Only about 100 pins were made. Most simply had the Post flag ribbon, but it could be attached to the membership badge of the wearer. This secretary was not to participate or vote in any Post proceedings, but serve as recording secretary. Check out my listings of GAR, Sons of Union Veterans, Daughters of Union Veterans, Auxiliary to Sons, Womans Relief Corps, or Ladies of GAR items. Thanks
