Description: I recently purchased a collection of fairly rare Civil War and Mexican War related books belonging to a man (now deceased) who metal detected in the Virginia and Maryland area in the 1980's, and also in NM, AZ and Texas after moving here to New Mexico in the 1990's. Watch my present and future auctions for more rare books from this collection. Please be aware that we are not professional book sellers, but we will describe condition as best as we are capable of. If condition is of the utmost importance to you, please ask questions and request more detailed photos before bidding. Rare set! A History of The Civil War-1861-1865-and the causes that led up to the great conflict, with a chronological summary and record, compiled from the official records of the War Dept., illustrated with the official war photographs taken at the time by Mathew Brady. Author is Benson J. Lossing. This is a 16 Volume/part set in blue paper wraps, inside a tie-together hard cover case (string ties at three edges). Hard cover 1912 1st edition-published by The War Memorial Association-New York. Measures approx. 9" x 12", with 512 pages. Profusely illustrated with tons of Civil War period photos and portraits. The set is in nice condition for its age. The front and back covers and spine show some wear, fading and vague staining, but no major damage at all. The original contents are very nice also, with no markings that I see. There are sixteen separate booklets, and it's possible that there might be a random loose page, but I didn't see any (didn't check every page). A very nice set! Please study the photos for condition. Always glad to combine shipping if you win more than one auction. Thanks for bidding!
