Scarce New England Peachblow AGATA Art Glass 4.25" Pitcher, c.1887

Description: Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a beautiful New England AGATA Peachblow Art Glass small square top pitcher with glossy finish, c. 1887. The pitcher has beautiful peachblow coloration in the glass shading from rose to creamy white and has a glossy finish. The pitcher has a good overall oil spot coloration in the glass and has an applied opaque glass handle. This glass was patented in 1887 by Joseph Locke of the New England Glass Co. and is a rare glass that was made for less than one year. New England called their peachblow glass Wild Rose and this was the base glass for their Agata line. Agata glass was achieved using a technique where they added a unique metallic patented stain to their Wild Rose glass which resulted in the appearance of oil floating on water on the exterior of the glass to which it was applied. The mottled Agata decoration has a golden tint to the random pattern that occurred as the liquid stain evaporated. This glass is pictured on page 49 of the book "American Art Glass" by John A. Shuman III. Measures 4 1/4" high with a 2 1/2" square top and an overall width of 4 1/4". Weighs 10 ounces. This nice pitcher is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws. There is a collector's identification number on the base that we have not tried to remove. This glass is so scarce that any piece is definitely worthy of being included in any American Art Glass collection.
