Scarce Item: Renowned 19th Cent. Biographer JAMES PARTON Hand Written Note

Description: James Parton (1822 – 1891) Most popular and renowned biographer in America, noted especially for his lives of Horace Greely, Arron Burr, Andrew Jackson, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Voltaire, as well as his biographical contributions to Eminent Women of the Age. Early editions of his biographies remain highly collectible today, and autographed material by Parton is very scarce. For sale is an Autographed Note Signed from James Parton requesting material recently published in Paris on "Gambetta 1869 - 1879." (Léon Gambetta b.1838 – d.1882 was a French lawyer and republican politician who had proclaimed the French Third Republic in 1870 and played a prominent role in its early government.) Parton's note is 8 x 10, folded, signed and dated Sept. 29, 1879, from Newburyport, Massachusetts, where Parton had moved to in 1875 and died on Oct. 17, 1891.
