Description: Species: Sarcosuchus imperator Formation: Elrhaz Formation Location: Ténéré Desert, Niger Age: Cretaceous, 125-115 million years old A Sarcosuchus imperator Tooth Fossil from the Elrhaz formation of the Ténéré Desert in Niger. Sarcosuchus imperator was a massive crocodylomorph, a relative of modern crocodiles, which lived in the Cretaceous period. Its name translates to "Flesh Crocodile Emperor" and it lived up to its name. Sarcosuchus imperator is estimated to have grown over 30 feet long and over 9400 pounds, dwarfing even the largest modern crocodiles. It was estimated to have been able to have inflicted a bite force of approximately 18000 lbs, far over double of the strongest bite force recorded in any currently living animal, and more than enough to prey on the African Dinosaurs of the Cretaceous period.
