Description: Saraswati Brass Figurine: Hindu Goddess Of Knowledge & Wisdom (4.75")(1.5Lbs) This listing is for one (1) Figurine in the image of the Hindu Goddess Saraswati; her skin is reddish to denote her dark skin tone; her garments are a bright gold that creates a dramatic contrast. There are also areas where the metal has acquired a green patina of its own due to age and handling. This item is made from a metal that I'm guessing is Brass based on how heavy it is; however, I don't have a way to test the metal to know for sure. The figurine is not marked but was probably made in India using the lost wax technique to create the initial rough shape that was then hand chiseled and detailed before applying the final red and gold patination. Saraswati is the Hindu goddess of knowledge, music, art, and learning. She is also associated with wisdom, speech, abundance, and wealth. Saraswati is one of the three main goddesses of Hinduism, along with Lakshmi and Parvati, and together they are known as the Tridevi. Saraswati is often depicted with four hands, which symbolize different aspects of human personality in learning: Left hands: May hold a palm-leaf manuscript and a ritual water vessel Upper right hand: Holds a white lotus flower. Lower right hand: Usually performs the varada mudra, a traditional Hindu gesture of gift-giving. Other objects: Saraswati may also carry a vina, the Hindu classical musical instrument, which represents her gift of music to humanity. She may also hold the Vedas, which represent knowledge, and a japa mala, or beads, which represent discipline and concentration. Saraswati, goddess of knowledge and the arts, embodies the wisdom of Devi. She is the river of consciousness that enlivened creation; she is the dawn-goddess whose rays dispel the darkness of ignorance. Without her there is only chaos and confusion. To realize her one must go beyond the pleasures of the senses and rejoice in the serenity of the spirit. Saraswati wears neither jewels or paints herself with bright colors. The white sari she adorns reflects her essential purity, her rejection of all that is base and materialistic. She transcends the cravings of the flesh and rejoices in the powers of the mind as the patron of pure wisdom. She embodies all that is pure and sublime in Nature.
