Description: I have here for sale a RARE first edition of SAMUEL JOHNSON' s JOURNEY TO THE WESTERN ISLANDS OF SCOTLAND. Printed for POPE, London in 1775. An unauthorised reprint, published in the same year as the first edition. A Journey to the Western Islands of Scotland is a travel narrative by Samuel Johnson about an eighty-three day journey through Scotland, in particular the islands of the Hebrides, in the late summer and autumn of 1773. The sixty-three year-old Johnson was accompanied by his thirty-two year-old friend of many years James Boswell. Contemporary (modern) calf leather binding. 5 raised bands. Marbled endpapers. Toning to the pages with the odd spotting. This book is in very good condition, a lovely copy, tightly bound with no loose or missing pages 268pp, 18cm x 11cm. Postage and packing : I know that you will be looking forward to receiving your order, each book is carefully wrapped in packing paper ( I have changed from bubble wrap to try and reduce my use of plastic) and posted in a Jiffy bag if size permitting, if not it is double wrapped in corrugated cardboard, brown paper and then securely taped.
