Elephants are also seen as symbols of wisdom and dignity, because of their incredible intelligence and very long life span. It is believed that an elephants trunk being raised up is a symbol of good luck, fortune, and optimism. The elephants were cast using the ancient methods of lost-wax casting and stained with brown patina finish for preservation. They are mounted upon a black variegated marble base with the artist Munemitsu's signature.
