Here we are offering GUERRILLA CHRIST (CRISTO GUERRILLERO), a Cuban propaganda poster printed in the early 2000s in Havana to salute a famous 1969 Cuban graphic that depicts Jesus Christ as a rifle-toting guerrilla soldier. The poster, designed by Cuban artist Alfredo Rostgaard (1943-2004), was inspired by a quote from a Colombia priest named Camilo Torres, who said: "If Jesus was alive today, he would be a guerrillero." Torres, a university professor and proponent of liberation theology, was killed in a battle against the Colombian government in 1966. The glossy 14 by 21 inch poster in this listing was printed after the 2004 death of Rostgaard, who designed many of the most famous Cuban propaganda and solidarity posters of the 1960s for the Organization of Solidarity of the People of Asia, Africa & Latin America (OSPAAAL) in Havana. This poster was printed for OSPAAAL by the Havana-based printing company Palcograf. Overall condition of the poster is good with some minor imperfections (present in many Cuban posters).
