Description: A Trip to Europe 1900 Ebay sales pitchThis is a digital copy of an unpublished manuscript written in 1900 by the legendary Adirondack photographer, author, and traveler, Seneca Ray Stoddard. It's one and only copy came into my possession over 30 years ago, and I have scanned all 232 pages, which include 130 photographs that document his last European voyage in 1900. A digital scanned image of every page is included, and since most of the text was handwritten and in places nearly illegible, I have transcribed it into digital text, along with digitally enhanced images of every illustration. Many of the photos were badly faded but are restored with Photoshop to high-quality images, as you can see in the above illustrations.Any serious collector or student of Seneca Ray Stoddard may already own either original copies, or my digital scanned versions on DVD or thumb drive of his first two travelogues, The Cruise of the Friesland 1895 and The Midnight Sun; The Cruise of the Ohio 1897, the first two travel books that Stoddard published late in his career. Back then, international travel by cruise ship was in its infancy, and was sensationalized by Mark Twain when he published his most successful book, The Innocents Abroad in 1869. Stoddard was clearly eager to emulate Twain, and his first two travelogues were very successful and beautiful. In them he took his readers to many of the same places as Twain including the Mediterranean, including Spain, North Africa, the Holy Lands, Greece, Italy, Switzerland, France, England, as well as Sweden, Norway, the Baltic Sea, and Russia. He took hundreds of pictures which he interspersed throughout the book and included several poems as well. The books were not only fascinating and educational, but hilarious in many places, just as Twain’s travelogue was. This third travelogue book is unique and has never been seen or read by any living person, because he never published it; in fact, he never finished it! The scanned pages are separated into their individual chapters, and again every page is included. This manuscript includes all 231 meticulously reproduced pages of Stoddard’s manuscript and all 130 photographs. The thumb drive or DVD disc has four sections: 1) 1) An introduction written by myself as a MS .doc file that explains the history of this unique unpublished manuscript, how it came into my possession over 30 years ago, and the challenges, obstacles and effort it took to scan and restore the text and images. I also discuss the unsolved mysteries, unanswered questions and surprising revelations within its incomplete content.2) 2) A digital transcription of the entire text embedded with every photograph, all restored and enhanced with photoshop. This is also a MS word .doc.3) 3) A folder that shows jpeg scans of every page in its original condition, including handwritten text, unedited photographs and the covers.4) 4) A folder that contains every photograph, after cropping margins and photoshopped restoration of the badly faded and yellowed images This album represents my third S R Stoddard collectors’ album. For those who already have the other two, you can expect the same meticulous detail that I put into the other two, which I also have for sale on Ebay. If this is your first purchase of my Stoddard albums, I hope this one will convince you to add the other two later! This is a must for any collector of Stoddard’s works. Email questions and feedback are welcome.
