Communist party of the USSR made a decision to build country houses the same way as they built in cities. They would have the same utilities (water, sour, gas, paved roads, etc.) like city houses have. The plan was to build about 400 experimental villages around the USSR. My goal was to visit these construction sites and to prepare a report for the Soviet Ministry department about the construction progress. During these trips (1969-1973y) I collected a fair number of pins from all over the USSR.All pins in single quantity rus-7 1. Chelyabinsk was founded in September 1736, located on the banks of the river Miass in the Ural Mountains. Population 1,244,000 (2024). The Chelyabinsk meteor entered Earth's atmosphere with a speed of 19 km per second (69,000 km/h). The light from the meteor was briefly brighter than the Sun, visible as far as 100 km away. 1,491 people were injured seriously enough to seek medical treatment. 1957y. was my last year in college. After graduation Soviet students did not have to look for a job. They were assigned their jobs by the government, and they had to stay at these jobs for at least three years. I was assigned to work in Chelyabinsk. All the students got their placements in different regions, but nobody wanted to leave Moscow, except for me. My parents did not want me to go, and my father was able to arrange my placement in Moscow firm of Bridge Constructions. All what I had to do upon arrival in Chelyabinsk was to show an offer from this firm. A report would be issued that there is no placement for me in Chelyabinsk, and they would let me go. It was not uncommon for graduates to use some kind of tricks to avoid a mandatory placement. In order to get a job at that time, one had to have an employment history, so called “Trudovuyu knizhku (Labor book)”. One of my friends, Mike Z.., told me that his first job was to stock shelves in a produce store. After 3 months there he quit this job and, as he already had his work history, he was able to get a position in a Research Engineering Laboratory, where he worked until he immigrated to the US. Now he lives in Boston. Any way all my student friends were able to stay in Moscow via one way or another, and many of them, including my best college friend, Muxtar-Zade, was sent to Cuba. Can you imagine how envy I was (-30 C and toilet naturally outside) when I found out about such an interesting job placement, as Cuba! A good time passed, I took my clothes, few technical books, winter coat, pillow and entered the train to Chelyabinsk, to my future. Mother with tears, passed me basket with food and Moscow was left behind. The train passed beautiful views: mountains, lakes, forests. I did not give a letter for releasing me from their job and got referral to Lisakovka (small place in North Kazakh Republic). It was in the middle of “Tselina” (Undeveloped land). Long live Tselina! Looking ahead, I’ll say that while working there for 2 years, I lost my “Прописка / registration” (a mark in my passport that says permission to live in a certain place). And then 15 years of problems began - running away from the police or having lunch in an empty iron tank.) 2. Gzhel is famous for its high-quality clays and skilled potters. The area has been a center of Russian ceramic production since the 14th century. 3. Aktyubinsk is located in West Kazakhstan. In 1999 changed its name to Aktobe. On May 8, 1869, года military fortification “Ak-Tyube” was formed, which means “white hill” in Kazakh. The population is half a million. 4. Kolomenskoe This former village and archaeological site housed summer residences of the grand dukes of Moscow, and later of the tsars, and is now a museum and reserve. (SOLD). 5. Novotroitsk is located on the bank of and along the Ural River. Population: 98,173 (2010). The history of Novotroitsk goes back to the beginning of the 20th century. 6. Podolsk The village of Podol, created as a town in 1781,. 40 km from Moscow. Population 334,000 (2022). Industrial city. After I was kicked out of Moscow 101 km away, I managed to break into the region. First Mozhaisk, next - Ruza, now working in Podolsk with the promise of getting an apartment. October 1964. I got a new 2 room apartment in a new 5-story building and got the keys! It was a rumor that if some apartment, which not occupied by resident can be illegally taken by other family with kids and it can take years to remove them off. But if you have some of your stuff in the apartment, and it is taken, you have more rights to take it back as it will be treated as a robbery. I remember that my hands were shaken when I got the keys. My own decent living place with all facilities inside, including toilet and gas! With trembling hands, I opened the door and entered our new place. It smelled of fresh paint. The first I need to get all the faucets as they were not installed. (It will be stolen). To make my rooms occupied I took off all my underwear, including socks and hung it on the windows. Also, I asked my neighbor for a chair and some more stuff, so an apartment will look like occupied. We bought and sold houses in the US many times, but I never have the same feeling, like I had at that time. Our own living place! 7. Leningrad Double pictures 8. Nalchik in the foothills of the Caucasus Mountains. Founded as a Russian fortress in 1818. Population 271,447 (2006) 9. Smolensk located on the Dnieper River, it has a population of 316,570 (2021 Census). Smolensk is among the oldest Russian cities of the known Rus' era.
