Very attractive and unusual design. The obverse has inscription “Republic of Sakha. Yakutia”. The reverse has raised lettering “For Contributing to Strengthening of Law and Order”. The medal is in Very Fine to Excellent Condition, shows age and some tiny contact marks. There are some minor oxidation spots, which are not detractive. The Russian autonomous republic of Sakha (also known as Yakutia) in the extreme transpolar north of Siberia is the source of some of the world’s best diamonds. Discovered in late 1950s, the diamond deposits have been providing the Soviet and later, Russian regimes with the much needed hard currency. Needless to say, much of the law enforcement activity in the region is dedicated to preventing theft of and illegal trafficking in the precious Yakutian diamonds.
