Description: Pittsfield is a town in Rutland County, Vermont, set among the Green Mountains, that was granted in 1780 and chartered in 1781 to Samuel Wilcox and 129 others. It was named after Pittsfield Massachusetts, which itself had been named in honor of William Pitt. Pittsfield Vt. Was first settled in 1786. The card was published by “Eastern Illustrating Co.” and has some wear along the bottom and a couple light spots on the image. There is just minor wear on the corners and edges and the reverse is clean except for some album corners. “The Studio of Eastern Illustrating Co.” in Belfast, Maine, one of the best-known publishers of real photo postcards depicting scenes of New England and New York. Founded by photographer R. Herman Cassens in 1909, he and his staff produce over 30,000 real photo cards printed in small lots to the thousands. Cassens sold his business in 1947 and died in 1948.
