ROSA PARKS - LITHOGRAPH SIGNED CO-SIGNED BY: ANTHONY DOUGLAS - HFSID 294208 ROSA PARKS Signed 24x20 lithograph, "The Mentor," honoring the civil rights pioneer, also signed by artist Anthony Douglas, accompanied by a photo of Parks signing Lithograph signed: "Rosa Parks", "Anthony Douglas". Color, 24x20, Lithograph titled "The Mentor," by artist Anthony Douglas, honoring Rosa Parks, 158/500. Montage of images of the Montgomery, Alabama seamstress and member of the NAACP, who precipitated the Montgomery bus boycott when she refused to give up her seat to a white passenger. Pictured scenes include a bust view of Parks in the center, and images of her speaking in the presence of Dr. Martin Luther King and Coretta King, participating in the 1963 March on Washington, and in a classroom with two African-American youths. Accompanied by unsigned candid photo of Parks signing. On December 1, 1955, ROSA PARKS (1913-2005), a tired seamstress from Montgomery, Alabama, refused to relinquish her seat on a city bus to a white man, resulting in her arrest -- and a successful bus boycott led by a then virtually unknown minister named Martin Luther King, Jr. A 1956 Supreme Court ruling struck down the Montgomery ordinance under which she had been charged and outlawed racial segregation on public transportation. She remained active in the NAACP and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) and, in 1987, co-founded the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development, which provides scholarships and guidance for young Blacks. On June 15, 1999, in a Capitol Hill ceremony, Mrs. Parks, already the recipient of many awards, was presented with the Congressional Gold Medal, the highest honor Congress can bestow upon an individual. After Parks' death in 2005, her body lay in state in the U.S. Capitol, the 31st American (ten were U.S. Presidents) and first woman to be so honored. ANTHONY DOUGLAS paints in a variety of mediums: oil, acrylic, water color and colored pencil. His vivid portraits and murals also include major sports figures, such as Joe Montana and Muhammad Ali.
