Description: Justinian I | AE Decanummium Reference: SB 233 var, DOC 204 var (ANTX) Date: 527-528 CE Obverse: D N IVSTINIANVS P P AVG; diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Justinian I to right Reverse: A CONCORDI surrounding large I, surmounted by cross and flanked by two pellets. ANTIX in exergue Mint: Antioch Size: 19.1 mm Weight: 2.96 grams RARE UNPUBLISHED VARIANT. Obverse bust type suggests Justinian as opposed to Justin I. The placement of the visible inscription also suggests Justinian ( -NS PP usually appears at 12 o'clock on coins of Justin). An apparently unpublished variety (unlisted officina, and all with ANTX). This ANTIX mintmark was used only at the beginning of Justinian's reign and not after the earthquake of 528. Struck on small and slightly ragged flan.
