Description: Robert Heide's The Bed: A Play Title: Robert Heide's The Bed: A Play Publication: New York: Caffe Cino, 1965 Description: Offset on textured paper. 9 7/8 x 13 7/8 in. Very good. Large flyer promoting The Bed, a play written by Robert Heide and directed by Robert Dahdah, at Caffe Cino.Heide wrote the play at Joe Cino's request of wanting to see a play depicting two sexy men, presumably lovers, who never leave their bed except to withdraw money deposited by a parent or purchase another burger or slice of pizza. One of them, Jim, starts itching to escape the lifestyle, while the other, Jack, scorns him for doing so. At the end, Jim leaves to buy a cup of coffee. Jack buries his head in his hands, and the curtain drops. The play became a sensation and was filmed by Andy Warhol. It cemented Heide's place in New York's theatrical new wave and Caffe Cino's place as a home for it.
