Description: Robert E. Lee by John Esten Cooke, a contemporary of Lee & former Confeferate soldier 500 pages cloth bound hardcover beautiful period illustrations sword guard is metallic gold, which does not show well in my pictures overall good condition, especially considering age - please refer to photos for best representation. I have not attempted any cleaning or restoration. ~ no writing or folded pages ~ some minor staining ~ some what appears to be paint drips? on the covers ~ typical antique book mustiness ~ spine intact It was clearly treasured & well taken care of. Please carefully review photos, as they are considered an important part of the description. I personally found interesting the description of the author requesting permission from Lee himself to write the book, and the note detailing how it should be "in every Confederate soldier's library" Hailing from Virginia, the author served as an ordnance officer & aide to Maj. Gen. J.E.B. Stuart, to whom he was related through marriage. The author's war participation included the Battle of Bull Run, Stuart's ride around McClellan, Brandy Station, Gettysburg, and Fairfax among others. He writes with the personal knowledge of officers & experiences of the Army of Northern Virginia. All items are carefully packed to ensure safe delivery. I do re-use shipping material when possible, to lessen environmental impact & costs. Please note: Media Mail is the least expensive shipping option, but can take significantly longer than Ground Advantage.
