Description: R.K. Sloane was an American underground comix artist, and a prominent artist in the lowbrow art scene. He was born as Richard Kenneth Sloane and grew up reading Mad Magazine and underground comix. He edited, wrote and drew his first underground comic, called 'Ric Sloane Comics' at age 20 and contributed to other alternative publications in the following years, such as 2 Bit Comics. In the 1980s he drew Rat Fink Comics, a comic book starring Ed "Big Daddy" Roth's famous hot-rod icon. Get gross with this SUPER RARE XL R.K. Sloane black 100% cotton t-shirt. In excellent condition. Purchase in the mid 90's. From a smoked free home. Shirt measures 23"x24" pit to pit, shoulder to bottom. His early work had influences from Bob Dylan, Tom Waits and poster artist Rick Griffin, and his later work delved further into the "darker truths of life" with punk and goth elements. Together with artists like Robert Williams, XNO, Joe Coleman, The Pizz and Todd Schorr, he was one of the founding members of the so-called Californian Lowbrow art movement, that had its cultural roots in underground comix, punk music, and hot-rod cultures. Sloane designed flyers and record covers; among his best-known designs is the Guns 'n' Roses skull-drawing. He died in 2006 of complications due to advanced lung cancer.
