He was signed to a four-year, $50 million contract before the 2005 season, and during his first two years with the team, he put up solid power numbers, hitting 39 home runs in both 2005 and 2006. However, his performance declined in 2007 and 2008, leading to his release by the Mariners in July 2008. Despite his struggles toward the end of his tenure, Sexson was known for his power-hitting and tall frame (standing 6'8"), which made him a memorable player during his time in Seattle.
