Description: Richard Ernesti (1856-1946) German/American Early 1900's Oil/Canvas Landscape Up for sale is early 1900's original oil on canvas painting by German/American artist Richard Ernesti (1856-1946). This gracious impressionistic landscape is very well executed employing a sophisticated knowledge of light, color and perspective. The painting itself is measuring about 14” (36 cm) by 20” (51 cm), and frame is measuring about 19” (48.5 cm) by 25” (64 cm). It is signed and dated by the artist in the lower left corner.The painting would be a very sound investment and a great addition to any collection. Richard Ernesti (1856-1946)Richard Ernesti was an American painter and educator who was born in Chemnitz, Germany in 1856. Ernesti studied at the Real Gymnasium in Chemnitz and the Chicago Academy of Design, as the pupil of Fedor Flinzer, and of Dr. Knorr in Munich. He was director of art education for Colorado schools and taught at Colorado State Teacher's College, Pennsylvania State College and Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. He has been coined "painter of the Colorado Rockies." It is written that when he lived in Colorado Springs, colored photos of his paintings of the Rockies were sold to tourists. His wife was the painter Ethel H. Ernesti. Ernesti's artwork is held in the collections of Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site in Ganado, Arizona and in the inventory of American Paintings at the Smithsonian Institute. He exhibited widely in the United States and especially in the Northwest regions.
