Rhodochrosite is a maganese carbonate mineral that ranges in color from light pink to bright red. It is often slabbed to show off it's concentric banding and is a popular material for lapidary artists. This piece has beautiful color and the banding forms an almost flower like pattern. Rhodochrosite is a soft mineral with a MOHS of 3.5-4 but will polish to a soft luster. A piece like this is perfect for lapidary, as it will produce a lovely finished gemstone.
