Description: "A soulmate has locks to fit your keys and the keys to fit your locks." - Richard Bach A fascinating personage, South Carolina-via-Alabama glass artist Houston Llew explored several life paths - including, weirdly, accounting- before finding his purpose in Charleston creating the unique, beautiful and wisdom-laden " Spiritiles." A vital, ever- expanding collection, each Spritile presents an inspirational quote ( about love, memory, loss, friendship, or anything that makes the human experience meaningful) on an 8.5 x 5.75 x 1.75 wooden block enrobed in copper and illustrated with fused glass powder. Llew's proprietary techniques make the glass appear super-reflective, resulting in a solid object that appears to glow from within. Much has been written about Llew's opus, some of which I have included below. This particular tile, created in the Spring of 2020 and now retired, pays homage to that most wondrous of human connections, the soulmate. ( Those who have been blessed need no explanation, but I have included a beautiful one provided by the artist). The quote itself originates from well-known author Richard Bach. The piece appears to be in excellent used condition, with the expected crazing that the artist states is part of his methodology. There are two small chips on the left side edge, where you can see the layering of the glass over the copper. Not being an expert in this genre, I have presented them at magnification, assumed they are imperfections, and priced accordingly. Piece is signed by Houston Llew. Rare, retired original art tile adds gravitas and depth to your collection or display. Tile ships USPS Ground Advantage from Los Angeles. "Soulmates work in a strange and beautiful way. Instead of one lock and key, they work like dual locks! In order to have a soulmate, you must also be theirs. It is this interlocking connection that is undeniably unique. Soulmates don’t have to look like each other, their locks and keys may seem wildly different, but they work together all the same. When you find that one of a kind combination with another soul, it feels as though you are seen and heard by someone else and yourself all at once. You can’t help but feel joy when you connect with your soulmate - whether they are your eternal friend or your partner for life - and love is always on the tip of your tongue when they are around. Spiritiles easily wall hang or stand alone. These wonderful artworks will never fade or tarnish. Spring 2020 8.5 x 5.5 x 2" Each Spiritile glass enamel on copper, formed around a wood core Every Spiritile is made painstakingly by hand in Houston Llew's studio . The glass is applied to one side of the metal using stencils and relying on precise layering with hand sifters. The piece is only fired once. After firing, a pin is rolled over the enameled metal to form intentional crazing marks in the glass. Although it goes against the medium's traditional teachings, Houston says this technique creates increased light refraction, particularly in the transparent glass. Spiritiles can be hung on the wall (they look especially impactful in groups), displayed freestanding, and even withstand high humidity, direct sun and covered outdoor environments (we recommend taking them inside during cold winter weather)
