Description: Up for auction is a vintage 1960’s Craig 212 AC/DC powered transistorized mini-reel to reel portable tape deck recorder. Craig 212 where made between1965-1968. I guarantee this item to work as I have replaced the two drive belts with new original belts, oiled all moving parts, cleaned the heads, cleaned capstan drive, cleaned the pinch roller, cleaned switches, and tested the unit for playback and record. Tested the unit to play on batteries and on AC/DC power. Included is a tape that I recorded which will show you the unit works and also provides tape and a take up reel. On the tape is the original Craig marketing recording that comes with the recorder when purchased. Very rare to find. Upon arrival if the unit does not work you can return at your expense in SEVEN days (7) (not 30 per Ebay) for a refund of your purchase price. I would say the unit is in good condition considering it is over 55 years old. The case is in good/excellent condition however please note pictures carefully as the pictures are part of the written description. So if you or you know of someone who has reels of tapes from this time period this little machine will play them back for your listening enjoyment and you can also record the tapes directly to your computer (CD ROM) via the extension speaker jack on the machine with the appropriate connector to your computer or you can just use your computers microphone to get your old tapes saved to a new digital format. The battery compartment is clean, and I would say unit is in excellent condition. This Reel to Reel tape player was used in the early 60’s Mission Impossible TV series. Peter Graves was given his “Mission Impossible” via this machine which would then “self-destruct in 5 seconds”. Features include: - Dual tape speeds at 3 3/4ips / 9.5 cms and 1 7/8 ips / 4.8 cms (via removable speed sleeve adaptor - included) - Plays up to 3 ¼ " reels x ¼” wide tape - ALC Automatic Level Control for input - Input level / Volume control - Single "T" function control - Built-in speaker - "Line Out" can be achieved via External Speaker jack so you can plug this directly into your computer “in” jack. -Utilizes 6 C-cell batteries or an AC/DC 9 volt power supply (batteries not included) - Measures 10" wide x 8" deep x 3" thick and weighs ~ 5lbs Checking the cost of 6 "C" fresh batteries will run $8-$9.00 at your local hardware or Walgreens. I have a universal AC/DC 9 volt power supply available on Ebay for $13.98 and if purchased at same time as recorder will refund the shipping on the adapter. Considering the price of the batteries, I would consider this option strongly. Ebay item 126356600508. Again, recorder has been gone through and all works great now. I used a Craig 212 while in Viet Nam to exchange letters with my family so hence the reason for my hobby. I buy/sell these units on Ebay as a hobby, and this is my 235 unit that I have restored. You will be ready to play your tapes right out of the box upon arrival.
