Description: This art quilt was created from 5 vintage embroidery squares purchased at an estate sale. The embroidery squares were meticulously stitched in the “redwork style” common in the 1930s. Five squares were completed in red (cat, teddy bear, jack in the box, duck, and bunny), one in green (baby in crib), and one in blue (abc blocks). Unlike a vintage quilt, this quilt does not have stains, holes, frays, dilapidated batting, or fabric that is breaking down. The embroidery stitches are in impeccable, like new condition. It has all the charm and appeal of a vintage quilt but the advantage is that it is a BRAND NEW quilt with premium materials ($90+ just in materials). Over 150 hours were spent on piecing the front and back, quilting and binding this beauty. The quilting techniques include 1) trapunto quilting to add puffiness and dimension behind the figures; 2) echo quilting around the figures to highlight the shapes; 3) stick quilting for the sashing and borders; and 4) stitch in the ditch quilting to fasten all the layers together. In all, there are three layers of batting in the quilt. While this is an art quilt perfect for a nursery wall, it is strong and durable enough for regular crib use. I’ve washed it in cool water with mild detergent and a “color catcher” and dried it on low with no difficulty. You cannot purchase a one of a kind quilt like this at Target. The price reflects the significant time and skill required to create it. Measurements: Length: 43” Width: 40” Free shipping. No returns.
