It is a well behaved, small growing mini climber and perpetual bloomer that produces profuse clusters of pretty thumb red sized double flowers year-round, grows well on its own roots, and is very disease resistant and self-curing. Primary caution is not to overwater, and to prune for shape after flowering. Small stature means this little rose is easily trained to a trellis, espalier, or other shape and works well in small spaces where other more aggressive growing climbers would be problematic, and can also be used a ground cover. This old rose has been sold under several common names over the years including Tom Thumb, Thumbelina, Sweetheart Rose, and The Gainesville Rose.. Red Cascade is the registered name. The rose was hybridized by Ralph Moore and registered in 1976. It is a seedling cross from ( Rosa wichuriana x Floradora) x Magic Dragon. In addition to being tough, resilient, easy to grow, Red Cascade will tolerate almost any soil type that drains well and will grow and thrive across a wide climate range from USDA Zones 5 to 10.
