Description: RC Rosenthal Plate Hand Painted White Pink Asters w/Gold 1898-1906 Monbijou Mold Exquisite Decorative ROSENTHAL Monbijou Mold 12 1/8" CAKEPLATE, Hand Painted WHITE & PINK ASTERS Pattern, Embossed w/GOLD Trim from Selb, Bavaria, Germany, Circa 1898-1906 DESCRIPTION: This simple but elegant pattern has a garland of large white & pink aster blooms with green leaves, and petite white flowers with yellow centers. The rim is scalloped and embossed. There are ghost green leaves to give depth to the painting. There is a green wash behind the garland that fades to light green in both directions. This is on the Monbijou mold which was introduced in 1896. This is a real beauty that was painted by a most talented artist in the Rosenthal studio! CONDITION: The condition of this Rosenthal plate is superb. We can find no defects or damage. The gold on the rim has slight age appropriate wear. There is also very slight paint wear due to stacking. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings or hairlines. Please refer to the photos to see how classically beautiful this is. DIMENSIONS: The plate handle to handle is 12 1/8" while it is 10 13/16" in diameter with a height of 1 1/8". HISTORY/MARKS: In 1879 in Upper Franconia, Bavaria at Erkersreuth Castle, Phillip Rosenthal (1855-1937) founded a porcelain decorating studio using blanks supplied by Zeidler. His business grew to the point that in 1891 he built his first factory to produce porcelain using kaolin imported from Bohemia. The current Rosenthal website states from 1907 the company marks each product with its full name, thus the brand name of Rosenthal is born in 1907. In his book entitled Rosenthal, Dieter Struss dates this mark as used in the 1898-1906 time period. This plate is on the Monbijou mold which was introduced in 1896.
