A powerhouse in his own right, his career spanned from his first public exhibition in 1963 until his passing in 2005 at the age of 74. Gorman was raised in a traditional Navajo hogan with his parents and grandmother. His father was one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers who developed the unbreakable code used by American forces fighting on the Pacific front of World War II. From an early age, Gorman’s grandmother would tell him stories and share histories of Navajo legends and his artist forebears, which would stoke his desire to become an artist himself. His use of vibrant colors and the female form graced more than 500 lithographs and serigraphs during his legendary career. Also among his works were 28 bronze statues and countless other works in various mediums. Each piece of art with his name attached to it is gorgeous and easily stands out as the work of a master of their craft.
