Description: Rare Vintage Tea Mug. Mount Vernon - The Home of George Washington - The Garden House Collection. Made out of white porcelain. Glossy finish. The mug is in the shape of one of George Washington’s Outhouses (necessaries). Octagonal shape. Sides with a brick-like pattern. Door and stairs on front. 3 windows on back. Lid is in the shape of the roof, with a little white finial. Made by Design Master Associates. US. 1997. It's 3.5" tall (5.5" including lid). Base is 3" x 3" (4.5" including handle). It holds 8 fl oz. It's 11.8 oz. In Very Good condition. No scratches, chips, cracks, repairs, etc. Please check photos. There were no bathrooms in Mount Vernon. Outdoor toilets were often called privies or outhouses; at Mount Vernon they were called necessaries. In the 18th-century, there were probably four necessaries spread out around the Mansion House grounds. During cold nights, the Washington family, their guests, the plantation’s enslaved workers, and servants, used chamber pots in their rooms. Today, there are two restored necessaries at Mount Vernon.
