Powell Flutes customer service in both the U.S. and France offices, and both of them confirmed that all Verne Q. Powell Ardeleve Boston headjoints were made of solid sterling silver • This extremely rare, collectible headjoint has been professionally refurbished by Winds101, but please ASK ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE PURCHASING, as the headjoint shows minor cosmetic signs of wear, which do not affect playing (the headjoint is being sold directly --- NOT through Winds101, so message directly on eBay with any questions) • The lower end of the tenon has some discoloration because the outer ring (that stopped the headjoint when it was fully in place inside the barrel) has been removed (see lower right on the photos, there is still a line where the ring originally was) • Tube is made of sterling silver • Sterling silver lip plate • Sterling silver riser • The tenon diameter is quite wide (about a .2 tenon size), so if you need to resize it to fit your flute, it would NOT be returnable under any circumstances • Handmade in Boston, USA Inspired by legendary Djalma Julliot flutes, Verne Q. Powell Ardeleve headjoint is very similar to French tonal characteristics! Verne Q. Powell developed the Ardeleve flute around 1951 by placing a Powell head joint on a flute made in France. The Ardeleve flute, named after Powell's daughter, was the "French Connection" flute, which was made in France and at Powell's Boston workshop for a very limited time between 1950s - 1960s. This Verne Q. Powell Ardeleve handcut headjoint sounds as beautiful as it looks. It projects well, and is at home in all musical settings and with all styles of music. The articulation on this headjoint is in a word --- amazing. It articulates very effortlessly and cleanly. Staccatos are very clean, light, and crystal clear. Accents and sfz and ppp to fff are effective, clean and easy to produce. It is truly delightful to play! Depending on the width of the top opening on the body of your flute, you might need to resize the tenon of this headjoint to fit your flute (this can be done by any certified flute technician).
