(Denver) Owl Bookend - c. 1911-1930 This listing is for only one (1) owl terra cotta bookend, which based on our research was made between 1911-1930. Stamp on the bottom of the owl it states 'NORTHWESTERN TERRA COTTA CO. DENVER COLO.' The owl has off-white, brown, and black glazed paint on it and is standing on a black book with the spine facing forward. It weighs 4 lbs. 2 oz. and measures approximately 7 1/2" and is 5 1/2" wide and 4" deep. It is in original condition with the original paint. The paint shows wear such as minor dulling and hairlines. There are significant chips where the terra cotta is visible and showing, as seen in the photographs, on the owl's upper left eyebrow (1/2"), the front/top left corner of the book (1/2"), the top & bottom/rear right cover of the book (3/4"), and to the back of the owl's head (1/2"). There are minor chips on the bottom left eyebrow, bottom/rear left of the book, and the back of the owl's head just below the shoulders. There are some black spots on the back head of the owl's paint as well. Please see the photos to verify the chips and to determine the overall condition.
