Description: An exceptionally rare set of antique Edwardian tubelined fireplace tile panels produced by one of the greatest tile makers of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Marsden Tile co. Ltd.Each tile panel consists of five 6" square tiles and makes up a landscape scene with grasses and wild pink flowers in the foreground. Tall trees draw your eye up past the river towards a bridge with a church spire breaking through a coppice of trees. The spire is cleverly reflected in the water below the bridge. The top of the scene is taken up with large white clouds on a bright blue sky.The condition is excellent, near mint. No age related marks or damage, no chips or cracks. Only a couple of imperfections from when the tiles were first made. The first is in the trunk of the tree on the right-hand tile panel, 4th tile up. Where the brown glaze hasn't run all the way to the base. The second, again a fault with the glaze is the blue sky on the top left tile, there are 4 tiny spots where no glaze is present. Both of these have been photographed in close up.
