Description: Sergio Bustamante incredible hand painted and handmade paper mache giraffe. This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of Mexican Art History by one of the most famous Mexican Artists. While some similar pieces of artwork are described as "Sermel style" or "styled after Sergio Bustamante," this piece is an original Sergio Bustamante piece signed by the artist. It is in wonderful vintage condition, estimated 1960's. It is sturdy but there is crack on the ear where it was repaired but overall nothing outstanding considering the age and media. Please see photos. It is hand painted in the traditional cream-color by the artist at the time. It is also signed "SerMel Tonala Jal, Mexico," letting us know it was made at the SerMel workshop in Tonala, Jalisco, The SerMel Workshop was founded in 1963 by Sergio Bustamante and Melquiades Preciado in Tonala, Jalisco, Mexico. The workshop’s name was created from the combination of the first three letter of each of their names, Ser-Mel. Their original artwork was immediately recognized in Mexico and around the world and garnered awards.
