Description: A rare and exceptionally large Paragon oval platter, which was produced for the intended May 12, 1937 Coronation of King Edward VIII, the Coronation that never was due to King Edward's abdication. The platter is hand decorated and gilded by Paragon's Master Artist J. A. Robinson, and is signed by him. The scalloped rim is gilded and the border of the Platter is embossed with a fresh fruit design under the glaze and inscription ' Edward VIII King and Emperor ' with his Royal Cypher ' EIR ' (Edward Imperator Rex) which translates from Latin to Edward King Emperor, at the base of the Platter, along with the inscription ' Crowned 12th May 1937 ', the date of his intended Coronation. The platter is in superb original condition, it has no chips, cracks or other damage, with just slight wear to the bottom foot rim. The original colours are still bright and vibrant. It measures approximately 15 3/8" x 12.25". Please refer to pictures for further details.
