Description: RARE - NEK Caucasians - Chiengora - 100% Russian Caucasian Ovcharka Spinning Fiber - Vermont Caucasian Mountain Dog fiber is as fine as angora and as rare as qviut. NEK dogs are exceptional quality purebred Caucasian Mountain Dogs raised in the Northeast Kingdom (NEK) of Vermont Purebred Russian Mountain Dogs have 4 coats - one is guard hair - the other 3 are undercoat that regulate the dog's temperature from sub zero winter to summer time tropical (well, in Vermont). Animals blow their coats each spring and we are carefully parting with our first batch of undercoat. Fiber has been hand picked, hand washed and hand scoured, resulting in exquisite spinning fiber with few guard hairs and no plant matter. Natural colors range from cream to grey, fawn to milk chocolate. Available in 1 ounce bags, ready spin or blend with other fibers. Scouring is not necessary as this fiber has no "grease" and will not clog up your carder, spinning wheel, needles or loom shaft. It is as soft as angora, warmer than finest alpaca, and non allergenic. It also produces a soft halo and has a long enough staple to hand spin alone and can be combined with wool or alpaca for stunning effects. Very rare to find this fiber in the US. NEK Caucasians is the only registered breeder in New England.
