Description: This extremely rare and beautifully crafted signed William Spratling (1900-1967) set of flatware has been packed away for decades. It came from an old New England estate. The set consists of 30 pieces including 6 forks, 6 soup spoons, 6 teaspoons, 6 dinner knives and 6 small cheese or similar knives. The handles are formed with a combination of silver and wood, possibly rosewood, in a horizontal pattern. I have not cleaned the set. Each piece is marked on the reverse with the exception of the dinner blades which I assume are not silver and most likely stainless steel as is common. I believe that Spratling did mostly custom commissions/designs. This set most likely dates from the mid 50's to about 1961. The set is in very good condition with 3 pieces needing a bit of restoration. One teaspoon is missing the top piece of wood on the backside of the spoon as shown in the photo. One dinner knife is missing one silver band on the handle as shown in the photo and one of the soup spoons has warped slightly where the handle meets the silver as shown in the photo. All 3 easily restored I believe. And the usual normal aging as shown. There is slight variation in the color of the wood on a couple pieces. The dinner forks measure 8" long, the dinner knives measure 9" long, the larger spoons measure a tad under 8" long, the teaspoons measure a bit over 6.5" long and the small knives measure 6.25" long. The weight of all 30 pieces is 1530 grams/54 oz. Please examine the photos as they are an important part of the description and email with any questions or additional photos.
